For this year's family summer holiday, we all decided to spend some time in Formentera before catching the ferry over to Ibiza. Formentera lies just off the south coast of Ibiza, and the only way to get there is by boat. There are no rental cars allowed and so you either need to rent a bike or scooter, or take a taxi.
We stayed on the north eastern corner of the island, in an area called Punta Prima. The views looking back across to Ibiza were fabulous and we were treated to some really amazing sunsets from the hotel.
Although we didn't spend too long on the island, it is certainly one of my favourite places in Europe partly because it's so beautiful and partly because not many people know of the island's existence. There are white sandy beaches dotted along the coastline, my favourite and the most famous being Playa Illetes. I also loved the hippy feel to the island, everything was very laid back and had a bohemian vide to it, and I can't wait to go back!
