Exploring Mont St. Michel

After choosing to stay a night in St. Malo, Kath figured that while we were in the area, we should also spend a day at Mont St. Michel before heading back to Paris.

Although I'd been here before whilst I was on a French exchange as a teenager I was excited to go back. The day we arrived happened to be the same day when sand from the Sahara desert was sweeping across north-western France and southern England due to a storm. This made the whole place extremely mysterious and at one point Kath and I were pretty freaked out. The lower path inside the city walls was busy with people and small shops or restaurants, but as you climb up further towards the cathedral it became eerily quiet and at times we felt as though there was no one else there but us. It was a pretty incredible atmosphere and I won't forget it in a while!
