Visiting The President At l'Elysée Palace
Every year on a weekend in September, all things cultural throw their doors wide open to the general public and you can often visit most museums and national monuments for free. Despite knowing that we would have to expect long lines and some rain, myself and some friends decided to spend the day at the Elysee Palace, the résidence of Emmanuel Macron, the French President. We probably joined the line about 10am and after some champagne, some croissants and a bit of music, 9 hours later, we were in.
The Elysee is an incredibly beautiful palace, and I felt super lucky to be able to see it up close. While the wait to get inside was super long, I think it's a once in a lifetime thing that I was glad I did. We were able to see the press conférence room, all of the meeting rooms and even Macron's office. As we were in one of the upstairs rooms, we looked out to see a crowd of people forcing outside. We soon realised that we could make out Macron and his wife taking photos with people. Unfortuanetly by the time we finished the tour he was gone but I did manage to grab a quick picture from above.
